Pick a depth-ready 4K wallpaper

What changed for depth in iOS 26
The depth effect itself works the same way it has since iOS 16 — one clear foreground subject, open space near the top, and the clock layers behind it. On iOS 26 the redesigned lock screen leans into that layered look, so a wallpaper with strong subject separation reads as more three-dimensional than it did before.
Practically, that means the wallpapers that already nailed the depth effect nail it on iOS 26 too — you just have a bit more room to position the subject under the clock.
Why isn't my iOS 26 depth effect working?
iOS hides the depth effect if the subject would cover too much of the clock, or if the photo has no clear foreground to separate from the background. Wallpapers with a single subject and an uncluttered top third trigger it most reliably.
You can also nudge it: when setting the wallpaper, drag the subject lower so the clock has room at the top of the screen. A busy, edge-to-edge scene with no clear subject won't layer no matter how you position it.
