How to turn an Instagram Reel into a live wallpaper
Updated 2026-07-06
Found a Reel you'd love on your lock screen? iOS won't let you set a video as a wallpaper directly — it has to be a Live Photo. 2Live converts any saved Reel into a 4K Live Photo wallpaper, enhanced and processed entirely on your iPhone, so nothing is ever uploaded.
- 1
Save the Reel to your Photos
In Instagram, open the Reel, tap the paper-plane Share icon, then “Save to device” (for your own Reels) — or use a screen recording for others. A few seconds of smooth motion works best.
- 2
Import it into 2Live
Open 2Live, tap Create, and pick the saved clip from your library — or send it straight to 2Live with the Share extension.
- 3
Trim and enhance
Trim to the exact moment you want, then let the on-device AI sharpen and color-enhance it toward 4K. Everything runs locally — your video never leaves the phone.
- 4
Export as a Live Photo
Tap Export. 2Live saves a Live Photo to your Photos, optimized for the lock screen with ProMotion 120Hz playback on iPhone 13 Pro and later.
- 5
Set it as your wallpaper
Go to Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper → Photos, choose the new Live Photo, and confirm the Live Photo toggle (the circular icon) is on. Press and hold the lock screen to watch it play.
Getting rid of the Instagram watermark
Reels you save from someone else's profile carry the Instagram username watermark baked into the pixels. For the cleanest wallpaper, save your own Reels (which export without the stamp), or use 2Live's trim to crop the corner where the watermark sits before you export.
Keep it smooth and sharp
Reels are compressed for the feed and often capped at 1080p. 2Live's on-device enhancement upscales toward 4K, cleans up noise, and re-encodes at a higher bitrate, so the result looks crisp on a Retina display instead of blocky. On ProMotion iPhones the motion plays back at a fluid 120Hz.
Frequently asked questions
Does my Reel get uploaded anywhere?
No. 2Live converts everything on-device, so the clip never leaves your iPhone.
Can I use a Reel I didn't create?
You can set any clip you've saved as a wallpaper for personal use. Note that Reels from other creators may have the Instagram watermark baked in — trim around it for the cleanest look.
What clip length works best?
Two to five seconds of smooth motion looks best, since the lock screen plays a short loop when you press and hold.
